Ah, yes. National Novel Writing Month quickly approaches. A month full of feverish writing, loss of sleep, and caffeine crashes seems really fun…Right?
For the past three years now, I’ve participated in the mad rush of creativity that is NaNoWriMo. I’ve always enjoyed the process of building a whole book and its characters through the course of a month; there’s something strangely exciting about tackling such an immense undertaking with no idea of the end result. In the past three years I’ve done NaNo, I’ve actually come up with some of my favorite characters and stories.
Even so, I had planned to forgo the daunting task of 50,000 words in 30 days this coming November. Since I’ve only just gotten through the process of publishing my first book, I figured that I wouldn’t be up to the challenge this year. But, after much thought, I changed my mind.
What can I say? I love a good writing challenge.
I had already decided to wait a month or so before starting on the next book in my Caledonian Heirs series. So why not spend that month writing something else, something fresh to clear my mind of all of the stress and work of my publishing adventure? It sounds like a good idea to me…right now, at least. I’m sure I’ll be thinking otherwise once I’m 10 days into NaNo and 5,000 words short. But I’ll deal with that when I get to it, eh?
Here’s to my fourth year of NaNoWriMo! May it be even more fun than the last.
